On 1/1/2024 the AES power plant will finally be turned off FOR GOOD!
Yes, you heard it right the last day of operation will be 12/31/23.
Thanks are owed to the hard work of Redondo Beach Mayor Brand, Redondo Beach Councilmembers Nils Nehrenheim, Todd Loewenstein, Zein Obagi Jr., consultant attorney Jon Welner, Harbor Commissioner Jim Light, Hermosa Beach elected officials, the NoPowerPlant group and all the residents in both Redondo Beach and Hermosa Beach who supported these people. They all worked tirelessly for the past 20+ years to make this a reality.
A ceremony to commemorate this epic event will take place at the corner of Herondo St and PCH/Catalina Ave at 2PM on December 31st. Special guests will be California State Senator Ben Allen and Assembly Member Al Muratsuchi.
In more good news following confirmation of the shutdown, SoCal Edison has already committed to removing all the power lines from the AES plant to the Torrance border at NO COST to the city. They will begin that process on January 1st, 2024.
Until then here’s the countdown to shut down! Here
We are getting closer to our goal but ROW still needs your help to defend Redondo Beach residents from unscrupulous developers and crony corruption, and to help build the future you voted for at the ballot box, so please donate Here.
