𝗘𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗨𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲 The good news is once again its clear candidates that represent the slow growth Bill Brand legacy are leading the charge! There are a lot of votes to still be counted and with our newly implemented Ranked Choice Voting, results could change if we enter a second round of voting. These will be tallied up on 3/13/25. Here are the current results:As of election night 4,456 total votes were counted as noted in the attached pics for the two contests yet to be decided for Mayor and District 1 City Council. In that group 177 people did not vote in the Mayor's race and 117 people incorrectly filled out their ballots with their #1 choice. These are indicated as under and over votes.The City Clerk yesterday has reported an additional 5,866 ballots, plus 682 unverified postmark stamped and unverified signatures ballots received from the Post Office.That means about 6,600 more ballots are still to be counted plus any that come in the next few days with a valid post mark. A Special THANK YOU to Redondo Beach First Responders! AMAZING WORK Redondo Beach Firefighters Association!!Our amazing Redondo Beach Firefighters saved a house in the Palisades, and then graciously left a note for the house that was "damaged" after saving it. Everyone knows someone that has been impacted by the fires in the Palisades.I was just informed that the home of a person I know was saved by our Redondo Beach First Responders. They discovered this when they were allowed to survey the damage to their property yesterday and found a note from the crew that saved their home. Apparently when RBFD arrived homes all along the block were in flames including one next door. Our own Redondo Beach First Responders led by Captain Kenny Campos began the fight. In the note the crew even nicknamed this the Alamo house as they were laying down the line to stop the damage from moving further in the neighborhood.Let’s all take a moment to thank our Redondo Beach First Responders once again! Thank you Redondo Beach Residents! Measure RB passes with 63.4% approval! Residents once again prevailed over the false information rhetoric from a few wanting to turn Redondo Beach into another high-density Santa Monica.During the election they falsely claimed unchecked overdevelopment will take place if you vote in favor of Measure RB. The reality is this would likely occur if RB didn’t pass. The city would have become immediately exposed to predatory developers pursuing Builder’s Remedy lawsuits forcing new construction projects and thousands of new “expensive condos” throughout Redondo Beach regardless of the land use zoning. In that time, I have spoken at numerous City Council meetings, wrote letters to the editor, and even door knocked council districts, all to convince the obstructionist group of now termed out and incompetent City Council members to act. Rather than doing their job, they instead covered for their friend – the former Fire Chief. When the council majority shifted to one that was resident centric in 2021 the former Fire Chief and former City Manager suddenly retired. With their departure, the weight of the prior “City-staff obstructionists” was lifted, paving the way for the city to complete long overdue, in-depth studies of Fire Department operations and facilities. Those studies confirmed the problems were far worse than we imagined. With this information providing a blueprint for improvement, everyone thought we were finally on the way to making much needed changes. Unfortunately, earlier this year, some implied that demanding improvements was a diabolical effort to shut down the Fire Department. That absurd claim was the final straw for me and many others who expect our first responders to have the tools they need to protect us instead of dealing with politics. It’s time to put your money where your mouth is! If you truly want to save our Fire Department, we must replace the two outdated 60+ year old firehouses and give our first responders the tools they desperately need to do the job. A bond is the best way to replace the unserviceable and non-earthquake rated Fire Stations. The bond also addresses other Public Safety needs of the Police Department and Central Operations so it’s a win-win for Redondo Residents! Over here at ROW we’ve got a lot of experience with attempted land takeovers by unscrupulous profiteers seeking to destroy our neighborhoods. That’s why we feel the most important item for Redondo Beach voters to approve on the ballot November 5th is Measure RB. Unlike other ballot measures, this one costs the residents nothing but can nonetheless save our city from zoning takeovers by Sacramento legislators. In a recent lawsuit, Redondo Beach and other Charter Cities were victorious against attempts by Sacramento to hijack our local control. After the court win, city leaders found language in our current City Charter that could allow exposure to future lawsuits from the State and predatory developers unless corrected. This could allow deep-moneyed interests to exploit State laws to force high density projects ANYWHERE in the city by ignoring our zoning regulations. Measure RB will make a small amendment to our City Charter to better protect the city from bad actors forcing zoning changes on Redondo Beach. The measure will specially address the following: 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹Clarifies that a State-Certified Housing Element of the General Plan once approved by the City Council doesn’t need additional approvals to take effect. This prevents developers from using State law to argue our City Charter is not in compliance with our State-Certified Housing Plan. 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗲𝘀 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗢𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁Continues to allow residents to vote on major zoning changes. Yesterday our city lost a great leader, friend, and tireless advocate for Redondo Beach residents these past 23 years. Every time Bill called you it was about the city and what can be done to make things better for everyone. Even while enduring lawsuits intended to silence our voices, and battling cancer, Bill never lost focus on the residents he so cared about and loved. Over the years Bill was also a friend and my fellow defendant working hard for residents. It was more often than not for him to place his own best interests second to what the community needed. Because of his steadfast efforts in motivating residents to act, we have new opportunities in our harbor area that would not be possible. These include the shutdown of the AES powerplant, revitalization and zoning protection of King Harbor, the BeachLife Festival, a new harbor amenities plan, major improvements to Seaside Lagoon, and development of an Ocean Exploration Education center. Bill also was a role model who never lost focus on the vision for a better city even when pro-over-development opponents did their worst. The motion was to compel Bill Brand, Nils Nehrenheim, Wayne Craig and the ROW PAC to pay $164,560 for their legal expenses after the trial judge (not us) called them out for being behind the sham lawsuit using shills Chris Voisey and Arnette Travis. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗻𝗲𝘄𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗹𝗼𝘀𝘁! 𝗔𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻! While we sincerely thank our legal team for this victory, a special acknowledgement and congratulations must be made to attorney Jeanne Zimmer. The judge literally quoted Zimmer’s response brief word for word clearly using it as the basis for the court ruling against Bruning and Wardy. This is a significant win for us, but Bruning and Wardy can still appeal the ruling. The basis for this latest motion was the result of CenterCal via shills filing a lawsuit against us in 2017. In 2018 the trial judge vindicated us of any wrongdoing and awarded us $896,896 in what experts have repeatedly stated was a SLAPP lawsuit. Despite being the prevailing party after trial, we haven’t received reimbursement for our legal expenses. The reason is Redondo Beach Waterfront (aka CenterCal Properties) was able to use their vast financial resources to appeal and squirm out of paying. We are pleased with this big win but it’s important to remember that counting the great news yesterday we have only prevailed in 2 out of 5 court rulings. These were clearing us of any wrongdoing in 2017 and the motion for fees ruled yesterday. To repeat, we WON the case. That has never changed. But we have been dragged through the court system by a vindictive developer who was able to overturn the judgments for them to pay OUR attorney fees for THEIR frivolous lawsuit. It’s also important to remember that the successful efforts made by residents to stop the CenterCal Harbor Mall has resulted in the BeachLife Festival, the new Harbor Amenities Plan and developing major improvements to Seaside Lagoon. We did our part to save the waterfront from unscrupulous developers and their local enablers and have finally begun the process of revitalizing our harbor. The next steps are approving and implementing plans to make dramatic improvements to Seaside Lagoon and the waterfront. Even with this positive advance forward the developer is still trying to punish us for making the will of the people a reality after rejecting their bloated harbor mall. As we previously reported, attorneys for Redondo Beach Waterfront and CenterCal properties continue in a malicious attempt to extort money and bankrupt those who defended Redondo Beach. They recently filed a motion to force us to pay $164,560 for their legal expenses after the trial judge (not us) called them out for being behind the sham lawsuit using shills Chris Voisey and Arnette Travis. The court date is coming up next month and our attorneys are working hard to get the motion thrown out and we need help. All this costs money so we are holding a special Year-End Fundraiser.
